Alright so if you’ve seen the latest YouTube phenomenon called the Harlem Shake, you realize there’s a little play on words going on here.

If you haven’t, you can see what it’s all about at the bottom of this post.

But first, I wanted to share a new favorite ViSalus shake recipe with you.  I call it the Harlem shake because it’s made with green leafy vegetables. Preferably collard greens or kale, but spinach will do in pinch. Leafy greens have excellent health benefits and should be a staple in any diet.

So why Harlem, well it so happens that Harlem is known for its soul food, and soul food typically involves collard greens being served along side some other, less healthy choices like cornbread, and pretty much anything fried in lard.

Collard greens, on the other hand are very healthy and have been known to fight forms of cancer.

When used in a smoothie, greens provide a more earthy taste that sort of balances out the sweetness of the fruit. So try it out, add some greens to your shake and let me know how you like it.

Here’s a basic Harlem shake recipe for you to try

Patch’s Harlem shake recipe:

1 cup collard greens
1/2 cup fresh or frozen strawberries
1 cup unsweetened almond milk
3 crushed ice cubes
1/2 banana
2 scoops Vi-Shape shake protein mix
